Black Pink made their highly-anticipated comeback last week with their "Playing With Fire" and "Stay" MVs, it it goes without saying that the reception has been incredible so far. Given their aesthetic and sound - not to mention that they're the first girl group to debut from YG Entertainment since 2NE1 - a lot of comparisons have been brought up between the rookie group and their label seniors.
In a new interview, Black Pink talked about being the first girl group from YG since 2NE1, and Lisa says that while the comparisons to their label seniors are flattering, they want to also show their own unique colour and aesthetic soon:
"We’re in the same company as 2NE1 and we get our songs from the same producers, so the influence is natural. Since they’ve done a lot of things before us, we want to emulate them. But at the same time, we hope there will soon be an opportunity to show our own unique color. We want to succeed with our own unique color,”
Given that Black Pink are still a young rookie group, there's still many more things to look forward to in the future, and Lisa states that one aspect the girls are looking forward to is the opportunity to study songwriting and lyric writing in the future:
"Because we’re a rookie group, we’re currently focusing on our team. We’re hoping there will be opportunities to study songwriting and lyric writing in the future. If we had to pick our group’s specialty, it would be performance. We’ve learned a lot of dance genres that a lot of girl groups tend not to learn, and we think those things will be a point of differentiation when we perform on stage.”
Rosé also shared her thoughts on Black Pink's future goals, saying that they want to connect with their fans with good music first and foremost:
“Though we have a long way to go, we want to become a group that people can trust [to make good music] when they listen to our music.”
With all the promise shown by Black Pink so far, we think greater things are in store for the girls in the future!
