Since 2NE1 officially parted ways, the members have been hard at work on solo activities. CL is busy enjoying her social life in America, Dara has become an actress, and Minzy just released her first solo album.
Park Bom’s current schedule is unclear. While she enjoys interacting with her loyal fans on social media, she hasn't had any official schedules as a celebrity outside of 2NE1 for several years now. She appears to be unsigned, but has indicated that she'd like to work on a solo album. Looking back at her chart history, she deserves one.
Bom kicked off her singing career in 2006, several years before debuting as 2NE1’s main vocalist. She started off as a guest feature on a handful of hit tracks, including BIGBANG’s “We Belong Together” and rapper Red Roc’s “Along My Way.” She officially went solo in 2009 with “You & I,” and to say that the song was a huge hit is an understatement. The mid-tempo pop ballad hit No. 1 on Gaon’s monthly chart and won Best Digital Single at the 2010 Mnet Asian Music Awards, eventually becoming one of the best-selling K-pop songs of all time.
She didn’t return as a soloist until two years later with “Don’t Cry.” The melancholy electro number was another huge smash for the songstress, topping the Gaon chart for two weeks and closing 2011 as the fifth biggest song of the year.
Outside of her two big solo hits, Bom has proved herself to be a valuable asset when it comes to collaborations. She featured on one of 2010’s biggest tunes, GD&TOP’s “Oh Yeah,” and then topped the charts again the following year on Park Myeong-su & G-Dragon’s “Having an Affair,” which became the second biggest song of 2011 (just behind T-ara’s “Roly Poly”). She scored another hit in 2012 with Epik High’s “Up,” and then reached the top five the following year with her Lee Hi duet, “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”
Bom was big enough, both on her own and as part of 2NE1, to amass many fans. The 33-year-old proved the strength of her fandom after she returned to social media last October following a two-year hiatus. Despite starting all over again with a brand new account and zero followers, she’s amassed 430,000 followers, and the number continues to grow monthly.
The sky is still very much the limit for Park Bom, so whatever she decides to do, her fans will definitely be ready to support it!
