Black Pink made their most recent comeback last Thursday with "As If It's Your Last," which has already been a massive hit around the world. With yet another hit single under their belts, the girls are one step closer to their goal - being acknowledged as an artist from YG Entertainment and not just "YG's only girl group."
In a new interview with Sports Donga, Black Pink opened up about their current journey as a YG artist and what they hope for in the future. Despite being initially compared to fellow YG group, 2NE1, following their debut, Black Pink don't feel pressure being compared to their senior group, deeming it to be an honour and a source of motivation.
Rosé says that being compared to 2NE1 has only spurred Black Pink on even further, and that the girls hope to one day be known as a YG artist rather than the company's only girl group. Having said that, the girls are aware of their position in the industry and in YG, with Jennie saying that they are still a rookie group and the youngest in their company thus they still have much more growing up to do.
Perhaps the most interesting tidbit from the interview are Black Pink's future plans and new songs. Unlike most rookie groups who have non-stop promotions, Black Pink have had long breaks between comebacks, something that the girls attribute to as "seeking perfection."
Jennie revealed that the girls prepared for 2 years for their debut singles "Boombayah" and "Whistle," saying that being perfect is better than being impatient. Most interestingly, Jennie then said that Black Pink have prepared many songs and are ready to show them to fans, but they currently don't know when this will happen (other than as soon as possible).
As for the girls' future plans, Jisoo says that "As If It's Your Last" is a one-off single that doubles as a song to show off the group's "Pink" side, and as a teaser for Black Pink's upcoming "Square Three" album, which she says "might" be released within this year.
We'll wait as long as it takes to hear all your new songs, Black Pink, and hopefully it won't be too long!
