Last week I wrote about male idol groups who have broken records over the years, so this week it’s time to find out the record breakers for girl groups!

Here are 8 times female K-pop groups (and idols) broke records:

1. Most viewed debut music video of all time

BLACKPINK: Boombayah (219 million views)

BLACKPINK had many fans curious when they debuted in 2016, being YG Entertainment’s second girl group following the immensely popular 2NE1. The girls slayed their debut with their first music video reaching over 219 million views, making it the most viewed debut music video in K-pop.

2. Most viewed music video of all time

TWICE: TT (262 million views)

TWICE released "TT" as their title track for their extended play Twicecoaster: Lane 1. The music video is Halloween themed. The members dress up as a variety of famous characters to show off their individual personalities. The MV currently has 262 million views and was released less than a year ago on October 23, 2016.

3. Oldest idol member to debut

After School: Kahi (29 years old)

When After School debuted Kahi was 29 years old. Kahi had friends who worked at Pledis Entertainment and planned to start a girl group. After years of hard work After School was formed in 2009 with Kahi being the leader. She has since left the group to pursue a solo singing and acting career.

4. Most followed female idol on Instagram

Taeyeon (10.3 million followers)

The Girls' Generation leader currently has 10.3 million followers on Instagram, putting her in the number one slot for all female idols. Second to Taeyeon is fellow Girls' Generation member Yoona (6.9 million) and third is a tie with both Jessica Jung and Bae Suzy, who have 6.5 million followers.

5. Shortest trainee period for an idol

Yenny (N/A)

Park Ye-eun, better known by her stage name Yenny, auditioned for the reality show MTV Wonder Girls and was able to debut with the group immediately after her audition, giving her a total of zero days being a trainee. She is the only idol ever to be able to debut instantaneously.

6. Fastest music show win

BLACKPINK

BLACKPINK have been on fire since their debut in 2016. It only took the girls 13 days to win the number one spot on SBS' Inkigayo for their track "Whistle." The former record holder was Miss A who accomplished the feat in just 22 days.

7. The highest-selling album

S.E.S.: Love (760,475 album copies sold)

S.E.S. was a trio formed by SM Entertainment in 1997. The group was incredibly popular in the 1990’s with their album Love selling 760,475 albums to date making it the highest selling album by a girl group in history.

8. Longest running group without any member changes

Brown Eyed Girls

The Brown Eyed Girls debuted in 2006 and have never made any changes to the group since. All of the members (Gain, JeA, Narsha and Miryo) have stayed together for 11 years and counting, the longest by any girl group.
