Wonder if the 2017 MAMAs will make this list.

With last night's announcement of the nominations for the 2017 Mnet Asian Music Awards, that means one thing for the world of K-pop - the awards season is officially underway!

This year's MAMAs is shaping up to be one of the biggest editions in the event's history, with 3 days of ceremonies planned across Vietnam, Japan, and Hong Kong come November. With that in mind, we thought now would be the best time to revisit some of the most memorable moments in MAMAs history.

From stunning performances to unexpected on-stage surprises, here are 9 of the most memorable MAMA moments (in no particular order):

9. The original 5-member TVXQ lighting up the stage back in 2008

Before the MAMAs became the "MAMAs," the event was known as the "Mnet KM Music Festival (MKMF)" and one of the most memorable moments took place in the final year of MKMF - TVXQ lighting up the stage.

Showcasing just why they were THE leading boy group of the time, a 5-member TVXQ wowed audiences that night and gave the MKMF a perfect send-off before it was renamed the MAMAs.

8. Rain's amazing 2008 performance

From the stunning stage to Rain's unforgettable beastly performance, the 2008 MKMF was definitely not short on memorable moments!

7. SHINee and EXO teaming up for an epic "Lucifer" performance in 2012

EXO had debuted earlier in the year to much fanfare and SHINee were on top of the world at the time, so it made perfect sense for the 2 label-mates to team up for an epic collab stage. It certainly was interesting seeing 17 sets of limbs performing "Lucifer" at the same time!

6. EXO's "Beauty and the Beast" stage at the 2013 MAMAs

Talk about production value! Not only were there multiple stage levels and an ambitious plot to tie all the songs together, but that "Growl" breakdown is one of the most eye-catching things we've ever seen!

4. Block B and BTS duking it out at the 2014 MAMAs

Between Zico and Rap Monster reunited following their underground days as leaders for a rap battle to Jimin revealing the title of BTS' new album via ripping off his shirt, this was one of the most intense and exciting performances to ever grace the MAMAs stage!

4. 2NE1's final performance at the 2015 MAMAs

2NE1 had quite a quiet 2015 following Park Bom's drug scandal back in 2014, so their surprise performance at the 2015 MAMAs was considered something of a triumphant return for the group. Sadly, this turned out to be the final live performance for the girls as they later disbanded in 2016. Oh the mems...

3. SEVENTEEN and GFRIEND collaborating on an awesome Spring-themed performance during the 2016 MAMAs

We were expecting some awesome collabs for the 2016 MAMAs, but no one quite expected the Spring-themed goodness that SEVENTEEN and GFRIEND put on! Since both are nominated again for 2017, maybe we can expect a follow up collab stage!

2. T.O.P kissing Lee Hyori at the 2008 MKMF

It was already lit enough that BIGBANG shared a stage with Lee Hyori, but T.O.P brought the house down when he surprised everyone present by locking lips with the singer mid-performance. WHEW!

While we're on the topic of kissing...

1. Trouble Maker locking lips at the 2011 MAMAs

2011 was the height of BEAST and Trouble Maker's popularity, so it made sense to put on an epic show featuring both groups. While Trouble Maker is known for their steamy performances, no one expected HyunA and Hyunseung to actually lock lips mid-performance (and again for their 2013 performance)!
