The death of SHINee's Jonghyun on December 18 sent shockwaves through the K-pop community, and many fans around the world have responded by leaving behind loving messages of support for the singer and his loved ones.

For some other fans, they've decided to respond by starting an online petition aimed at raising awareness about mental health in the Korean entertainment industry.

In a new Reddit thread, fans announced that a Change.org petition has been started in an attempt to create a mental health monitoring program in the Korean entertainment industry. This petition aimed at providing mental health support for Korean entertainers and artists appears to have struck a chord with fans as over 300,000 signatures have already been logged, which is well over the half-way mark of a targeted 500,000 signatures.

Once the petition is over, it was stated that the petition will then be sent to various entertainment companies in Korea, as well as the South Korean government.
