Kei Yasuda, former member and co-leader of J-pop idol group Morning Musume, gave birth to her first child on January 7.

She released a statement saying Yasuda gave birth to a baby boy. It says that both Yasuda and the baby are in good health, and that things are progressing well for both, post birth. It goes on to say that she plans to continue working in the near future, but also wants to spend time with her new son.

She shared the news on Instagram:

Yasuda was part of the “second generation” members to join Morning Musume in 1998 following the success of the idol outfit’s first single, “Morning Coffee.” She quickly adjusted to life in the on-the-rise pop project, and was part of the group’s first number-one song “Daite Hold On Me!” She became co-leader of Morning Musume in 2001, and then left in 2003. She stayed with parent company Hello! Project, taking part in acting jobs and various other entertainment ventures. She graduated from that in 2009.

Yasuda married Ozaki Yoichi, a food researcher, in the spring of 2013. In late 2014, she said that the couple were trying to have a baby. After trying for a bit, Yasuda announced she was pregnant last July.
