Popular Latin boy group CNCO were on iHeartLATINO radio a few days ago, where they spoke about various topics such as their Best Boy Band nomination for the upcoming 2018 iHeartRadio Awards. When the topic turned to their fellow iHeartRadio nominees BTS, fans weren't too happy at what was said.
iHeartLATINO host DJ Enrique Santos congratulated CNCO on their iHeartRadio Awards nomination for Best Boy Band before asking the group what they thought of "the Koreans [referring to BTS]" and saying that they're "like the Korean version of CNCO."
CNCO replied that they like BTS' work before Santos asked them to sing their own songs “Súbeme La Radio” and “Mamita” in Korean, which the group obliged by mimicking words in mock-Korean.
Here's a translation (as per AllKpop) of CNCO's conversation with Enrique Santos:
"MC Enrique Santos: "[You're nominated] for best boy band and best remix!"
CNCO: "Thank you!"
MC Enrique Santos: "Have you seen the Koreans? They're like the Korean version of CNCO."
CNCO: (hesitates, laughs nervously) "We like what they do."
MC Enrique Santos: (sarcastically) "And the lyrics are beautiful, right?"
MC Enrique Santos: "How would your song 'Súbeme la Radio' sound in Korean?"
MC #2: "No, their song 'Mamita.'"
MC Enrique Santos: "Or 'Mamita,' 'Mamita' in Korean!"
CNCO: (offensively mimicking the Korean language to the rhythm of their song)
MC: "'Mamita' in Korean?"
CNCO: (mimics once again)
Following the comments made by Enrique Santos and CNCO about BTS, fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts about the interview and what was said, causing the hashtag #CNCO_Apologize to trend.
At the time of writing, no follow-up statements or comments have been made by Enrique Santos or CNCO.
