When it comes to taking a stand, BTS aren't shy

BTS have earned a reputation for standing up against injustice and speaking for today's youth, with songs that call out the older generation, detail the hardships that come with bullying, and struggling with mental illness.

Here's just some of the powerful messages BTS have been sharing in their music, from their debut to now.

12. So What

Calling out people struggling with the difficulties of every day life, BTS give a rousing shout of 'so what' and tell people to follow their dreams without fear.

Key lyric: "In a sigh, lots of worries are hiding/Stop thinking about it, you already know it all/in the middle of the road, in the moment you want to give it up/shout out louder/so what"

11. Dope

BTS call out the judgmental elders who won't give young people a chance to survive in the real world, but the boys contend that thanks to their own hard work, they're actually pretty dope.

Key lyric: "The media and adults say we don't have willpower, condemning us like stocks/Why are they killing us before we can even try?"

10. Agust D: The Last

Suga addresses mental illness in a frank and honest manner uncommon in K-pop.

Key lyric: "On the other side of the famous idol rapper stands my weak self, it's a bit dangerous/depression, ocd, they keep coming back again from time to time"

9. Sea

The lyrics explore reaching the peak of success only to realise happiness isn't as easily found, and the difficulty of overcoming those mental hurdles.

Key lyric: "But why is there this fear in between the happiness?"

8. Am I Wrong

BTS call out socially unconscious people, confronting that the world is going crazy.

Key lyric: "If what you see on the news is nothing to you... you're not normal"

7. Go Go

An ode to the YOLO culture we're living in right now, where people seek satisfaction through consumerism

Key lyric: "Pinching pennies to spend it all on wasting it"

6. Spine Breaker

The title refers to kids who will 'break their parents' backs' demanding expensive items to stay on trend

Key lyric: "The class system of the 21st century is divided into two/those who have and those who haven't"

5. N.O.

The song talks about students being overwhelmed by the expectations placed on them by elders, and the effect it has on their mental wellbeing.

Key lyric: "They say that we are happier than our portion/then how do you explain my unhappiness?"

4. No More Dream

BTS call out young people with no ambition and demand they take a stand to follow their true dreams.

Key lyric: "Even if you live for a day/do something/put away your weakness"

3. BTS Cypher Pt 4

The rap line encourage listeners to not listen to negative opinions and remember to love themselves.

Key lyric: "I love, I love, I love myself"

2. 21st Century Girls

A song that tells girls to live however they want, to have self-confidence and remember 

Key lyric: "Tell them that you're strong/tell them you're enough"

1. Silver Spoon

The ultimate call-out to the older generation, this song is a rallying cry for young people who work hard and face the obstacles put in place by the people who came before them.

Key lyric: "Saying that this is justice, you must be kidding me"
