SHINee's Taemin has been in K-pop for a long time. You wouldn't expect it, given he's only 25 years old, but he made his debut as a member of SHINee when he was only 14 years old. He's been performing for 10 years already, and he's grown up before our eyes.
Taemin was an endearing maknae from the get-go, his baby face an immediate hit with fans when SHINee debuted with "Replay".
His potential was evident as a vocalist and dancer, and releases like "Lucifer", "Hello" and "Juliette" gave him further chances to really shine on stage and on record.
SM recognised his dancing talents early on too, placing him in the dance project Younique Unit for "Maxstep".
Along with performance, Taemin has always been at the forefront of fashion and styling too. Though he's frequently joked about looking like a girl in his earlier years with SHINee, he became the epitomy of melding masculine with feminine through long hairstyles and unique make-up.
This extends to his solo material, like his first EP Ace and its lead single "Danger", where aggressive dancing met with dark charcoal eye makeup, facial jewellery and powerhouse vocals. It was the perfect embodiment of Taemin's transition into young adulthood.
From "Drip Drop" to "Flame of Love" and "Move", Taemin has been broadening the definition of being an artist, creating music that is tied to dance, and choreography that inextricably mirrors the music: basically, he makes art that's not just about one form or the other, but the perfect combination of it all.
His stage presence is no joke either. The piercing choreography from "Move" has earned him fans far and wide, and his talents are admired by his fellow idols, whether older or younger.
Taemin has been branching out more, collaborating with new choreographers, appearing in tv shows like Why Not? The Dancer and The Unit, where he acts as both a student and mentor figure.
Although he's been honing his art for 10 years, you can't help but feel Taemin's talents are limitless.
