Starship Entertainment has confirmed that their exclusive contract with MONSTA X's Wonho has been terminated.

In a statement from the agency, they addressed recent reports that Wonho is under police investigation for alleged marijuana use in 2013. The company said:

"In relation with this case, the judgement has been made that we can no longer maintain our contract with Wonho and terminated our contract with Wonho as of November 1, 2019."

In the full statement, a translation of which is available at Soompi, the company stated that they will work to fulfil their responsibility so that Wonho can diligently comply with the investigation. The company also apologised to fans.

The contract termination follows a report from Dispatch on November 1 that alleges Wonho and former Ulzzang Shidae co-star Jung Da Eun smoked marijuana together in 2013 at home. According to the report, Jung Da Eun's friend 'Jo' who was a promoter at Burning Sun nightclub, was present at the time.

In September 2019, police began carrying out investigations on Wonho after questioning both 'Jo' and Jung Dae Eun, who were at Seoul Detention Centre and Gwangju Detention Centre respectively at the time. Wonho took part in a voluntary drug test at the airport in late September after returning from a concert in Germany.

Wonho is yet to be questioned by police according to reports. Under South Korean law, the possession and/or consumption of marijuana is a crime that can result in up to five years in prison or up to a 50 million won fine.
