Super Junior's Heechul has shown his support for gay fans when addressing rumours regarding his sexuality.
The idol is currently a host of panel show 7.7 Billion in Love, and during a recent episode, the discussion was centred on the experiences of sexual minorities globally.
Heechul has famously been the subject of gay rumours since debut, primarily due to his appearance with long hair and wearing coloured lenses. Talking about the rumours, Heechul said:
"At first, I wanted to deny it and say that I'm not gay. However, I felt that if I did, I could be disrespecting sexual minorities."
He also said: "Whether it's overseas or in Korea, there could be a gay person among the male fans at our concerts, and I think I'd feel really sorry towards them".
This isn't the first time Heechul has explained his unwillingness to deny gay rumours. In a 2017 interview with Yonhap News, he said: "I realised that if I say I'm not and vehemently deny it, it's rude to people who are actually gay. It's just a matter of preference, and it's just that everyone is different with different values."
