The Melbourne derby proved to be a pulsating affair, as Besart Berisha scored the last-minute winner in a five goal thriller.
Brisbane Roar remais top of the table with two wins from two, while there was major incident involving Newcastle Jets goalkeeper Mark Birighitti.
Here are The World Game's top 5 talking points from Round 2 of the A-League:
The Melbourne derby has set a high standard
The Sydney derby is around the corner in round 3, but the Melbourne derby will be a tough act to follow.
Fahid Ben Khalfallah gave Victory a 1-0 lead at the break but it was in the second-half where the game sparked into life as City clawed back from 2-0 down to level the score at 2-2 with two stunning goals.
And, just when you thought the drama was over, Victory’s Berisha popped up with a 90th minute winner.
Let's hope Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers can live up to the hype.
Don’t switch your TV off too soon
There was a dramatic goal in the final 10 minutes of every game, three of which were match winners.
In addition to Berisha’s winning goal for Victory, Alex Brosque guided home a glancing header to give Sydney FC a slender 1-0 victory over Newcastle Jets, while Vince Lia volleyed the ball into the top corner as Wellington Phoenix beat Perth Glory 2-1 in the distance derby.
Roar is a force to be reckoned with
Brisbane Roar is the only team to pick-up maximum points from its opening two games, after it beat Central Coast Mariners 2-1.
Brandon Borello starred for the Roar with two goals, the first a well-struck finish from inside the box, before capping off a lethal counter attack for the second.
John Aloisi’s men are flying high ahead of a trip to Wellington in five days time.
The role of a goalkeeper is dangerous
There is a big debate as to whether Shane Smeltz’s challenge on Jets goalkeeper Mark Birighitti was reckless, clumsy or full of intent.
After Birighitti was rushed off for emergency surgery on his teeth, Jets coach Scott Miller labelled the tackle "outrageous", "disrespectful" and "reckless".
However, Sydney FC coach Graham Arnold said Smeltz cut a distraught figure in the dressing room at full-time.
What we can agree on is that Birighitti was bold and brave coming out for the ball and goalkeepers often front the most dangerous position on the pitch.
There is always room for a Hollywood ball
The A-League doesn’t boast a player of David Beckham or Andrea Pirlo’s stature but that doesn’t mean its players can't pull off a Hollywood long ball.
Aaron Mooy's picked out a pin-point long pass from inside his own half for City team-mate Stefan Mauk to latch onto while Brisbane Roar’s Jack Hingert was equally inventive in his assist for Borello's second goal.
