9 free agents clubs should be chasing

The latest transfer window is fast approaching and a selection of big-name players will be looking to tie down contracts at new clubs.

Everybody loves a bargain and, with the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and John Terry available for free, there will be fierce encounters of tug-and-war stretching from Europe to Asia.

Rumours have linked Ibra with a huge money move to China, where he would be the poster-boy for a Chinese Super League reinventing itself with an influx of marquee players and disregard for appropriate wages.

Where will these nine players end up?

1. Steve Mandanda (Marseille)

For eight years, the France international has been a fan favourite at Marseille and is the Ligue 1 outfit’s captain. However, the club has hit a new low this season and are in the bottom half, without a win in nine games. A move away from Stade Vélodrome looks likely for the 30 year-old stopper with the blue half of Merseyside on alert.

Prediction: Premier League

2. Gregory van der Wiel (Paris Saint-Germain)

The pacy full-back has won four consecutive league titles since joining PSG from Ajax in 2012, and played his part in the Netherlands’ 2010 World Cup runners-up finish. But, the 28 year-old right-back is out of favour under Laurent Blanc and is ready to find a new home.

Prediction: La Liga

3. John Terry (Chelsea)

It was a shock when the Chelsea captain found out he had not been offered a new contract at Stamford Bridge and many top clubs may still be interested in the former England international's wealth of UEFA Champions League and Premier League experience. Then again, at 35 years-old, mature players are looking to leagues outside of Europe to wind down their careers.

Prediction: MLS

4. Patrice Evra (Juventus)

The former Manchester United left-back has been sorely missed at Old Trafford since his departure in 2014 and proved he could still cut it at the very highest level by going all the way to the Champions League final with Juventus last season. Surely he deserves a new deal at the Serie A club. Well, it’s yet to be finalised, and another team could soon swoop in.

Prediction: Premier League

5. Riccardo Montolivo (AC Milan)

With more than 50 caps for Italy, Montolivo is highly rated in his native country, where he has spent all 13 years of his career. Injuries have scuppered his development at times and the hierarchy at the San Siro are debating whether to ship him off.

Prediction: Serie A

6. Ever Banega (Sevilla)

Sevilla marched to UEFA Europa League glory in their last campaign with the creative Banega at the heart of every move. The 27 year-old still has plenty to give and is likely to have the longest list of suitors from this selection. AC Milan and Manchester United are rumoured to be interested.

Prediction: Premier League

7. Francesco Totti (AS Roma)

One-club man Totti is a Roma icon having made more than 750 appearances and scoring 300 goals. If the captain, most capped player and highest ever goalscorer pulls on another shirt then surely it won’t look right. However, no-one is sure of 39 year-old Totti's next move and he has bags of skill and style to offer.

Prediction: Retirement

8. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Paris Saint-Germain)

Ibra remains one of Europes’s best strikers and it’s madness he is available on a free. He has racked-up more than 24 league goals for PSG this season and has his eyes set of winning the UCL before departing the French glamour club. Chinese teams may want him to revolutionise their football landscape but the Swede’s desire to constantly compete at the top may keep him in Europe.

Prediction: Premier League

9. Fernando Torres (Atletico Madrid)

El Nino managed to reach 300 appearances for Atlei and bag his 100th goal for his beloved club. It apepars a twisted fairytale ending for a player whose career has been a rollercoaster ride of highs and lows. It looks unlikely he will be able to find another high-profile club to latch onto, and with the tempting offer of ludicrous wages in China – the deal may already be done.
