A-League official in contention to referee World Cup final

A-League referee Matthew Conger has been named in a shortlist of match officials to referee the FIFA World Cup final.

The New Zealander is one of 10 officials in the running to take charge of the tournament decider.

Conger was the man in the middle during Nigeria’s 2-0 win against Group D rivals Iceland and was fourth official during England’s round of 16 win against Colombia.

With Uruguan referee Andreas Cunha and Turkish official Cunyet Cakir already appointed for the semi-finals, FIFA is set to reveal their appointments for the final and third place playoff with the Kiwi in the running.

Conger, who refereed three A-League matches last season, is Oceania’s only on field representative at the tournament.
