A look at Stage 15

It's a day in the medium mountains for the peloton before a flat finish in the medieval town of Carcassonne.

The town of Carcassonne has been granted UNESCO World Heritage status and is considered one of the best examples of medieval architecture in Europe.

The Cite de Carcassonne, the remains of the old fortifications, is the main feature of the town which relies on tourism and wine-making as its major industries.
Carcassonne also has a long history with the Tour, harking back to the first ever Tour de France in 1903, when the race headed through the town during its third stage.

The stage itself looks like one for the breakaway, with three categorised climbs set to split up the race before the final 41.5 kilometre into the finishing town.

The Pic de Nore, 12 kilometres at six per cent, offers the major challenge of the day, but it shouldn't be hard enough to cause serious gaps among the contenders for the yellow jersey.

In any case, the long descent and flat section into the finish means that it will be unlikely to see any major time differences on the general classification with more decisive days in the Pyrenees beckoning.

Coverage of Stage 15 of the Tour de France begins at 8.30 pm (WA and SA check guides), while the live streaming on the SKODA Tour Tracker and the Cycling Central website starts at 9.00 pm AEST.
