'A new era' - NBA board approves sale of Ingles' Utah Jazz

The NBA board of governors has unanimously voted to approve the sale of the Utah Jazz franchise to a group led billionaire Ryan Smith.

The 2020-21 NBA season is fast approaching and SBS will again broadcast two live, regular season games per week in HD on SBS VICELAND and streamed live via SBS On Demand - starting December 27.

The official sale of the Jazz, where Australia international Joe Ingles plies his trade, is expected to conclude imminently, now that the vote has passed.

American billionare businessman Smith, CEO and founder of Utah-based experience management company Qualtrics, leads the new ownership group.

“Ryan Smith is a forward-thinking, community-minded entrepreneur and business leader who will be a fantastic addition to our league,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said on Saturday (AEDT).

“As a life-long fan of the Utah Jazz and more recently as one of their key marketing partners, Ryan has demonstrated his deep commitment to the Jazz and the Utah community and there’s no doubt he will bring that same level of dedication to the operation of the team.

"It's exciting times," said Boomer Ingles, via Utah Jazz Twitter.

"We're extremely grateful and happy to have you guys on board, and looking forward to exciting times in the future, so massive thank you.
