Arsenal slam 'unacceptable' racial abuse of teary Osei-Tutu

Arsenal have leaped to the defence of loanee Jordi Osei-Tutu, who suffered "unacceptable" racial abuse during a pre-season friendly for VfL Bochum on Wednesday (AEST).

Osei-Tutu left the pitch in tears during Bochum's eventual 3-0 defeat to Swiss side St. Gallen, citing racial abuse from an opposing player.

The 20-year-old, who will spend the entire 2019-20 season with the second-tier German side, said the incident took place two minutes after he had been booked for a poorly-timed challenge in the first half.

While it is believed the young defender did make his return to the pitch in the second half, parent club Arsenal have since slammed the situation.

"We are working closely with Bochum and Jordi and we are giving him our full support," a club statement read.

"Racism has no place in our game and we do not tolerate any form of discrimination."

Bochum officials have since moved to accommodate their aggrieved Englishman, as have St. Gallen, who condemned their player's behaviour.

In a statement of his own, Osei-Tutu said: "I am very disappointed about what happened.

"No one should ever be subject to any discrimination and it is really hard to understand how a fellow professional footballer could do this.

"Arsenal and Bochum have provided great support to me and I hope that, if nothing else, we can show that racism has no place within football."
