Aussies Abroad: J-League debut for Socceroo Nabbout

Socceroos bolter Andrew Nabbout has made his debut for J-League club Urawa Reds in their 2-1 loss on Sunday.

The former Newcastle Jets star was introduced with 20 minutes left on the clock during the Reds' defeat at Jubilo Iwata.

It was Urawa's third loss in five games this season with the traditional J-League powerhouse yet to taste victory.

For Nabbout, the match action will help him on his way to replicating the form which helped him become one of the A-League's breakout stars this season and hopefully secure his ticket to Russia as part of Bert van Marwijk's Socceroos 2018 FIFA World Cup squad.

Nabbout's Socceroos teammate Robbie Kruse was also in action overnight as his Bochum side defeated Eintracht Braunschweiger 2-0 in the German second division.

Kruse started the match and played 75 minutes, before being substituted.

The win moves Bochum up to eighth spot on the 2. Bundesliga ladder.

Meanwhile, Socceroos goalkeeper Brad Jones tasted victory with his Feyenoord side collecting a comprehensive 5-0 win against Excelsior.

It was a much needed clean sheet for Jones, which is sure to boost his confidence as he battles to cement his place among the Socceroos goalkeeping stocks.

It was a much different result for fringe Socceroos midfielder Ajdin Hrustic, who played 88 minutes as his FC Groningen side went down to Eredivisie leaders Ajax 2-1.

And in the MLS, Bernie Ibini played 67 minutes for Vancouver Whitecaps as they defeated Colombus Crew 2-1.
