Aussies Abroad: Mooy's promotion hopes take a hit

Aaron Mooy's Huddersfield Town went down to Nottingham Forest, losing 2-0 away to fall further off the pace in the race for promotion.

Mooy played the full 90 minutes in the match at The City Ground in Nottinghamshire.

Huddersfield now sit in third spot, 10 points behind second-placed Newcastle and 12 behind leaders Brighton, with a game in hand. Only the top two teams gain automatic promotion to the Premier League, with the teams placed third-to sixth contesting play-offs.

Fellow Socceroos Mile Jedinak and Jackson Irvine were also in action in the Championship with going head-to-head in as Burton Albion and Aston Villa shared the spoils  in a 1-1 draw.

James Meredith and Cameron Burgess faced off in their League One match in Bury with Meredith coming out on top in Bradford City's 2-0 win.

Tom Rogic continued his comeback from injury, playing the final 20 minutes of Celtic's 3-1 win over Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership.

Elsewhere Kwame Yeboah scored for his Borussia Monchengladbach II eight minutes from time in their 3-1 win against Sprockhovel in Germany's fourth tier Regionalliga.

In the Netherlands, Jason Davidson played a full 90 minutes in Groningen's 3-4 loss to ADO Den Haag. Stefan Mauk was an unused substitute in NEC's 1-5 loss to Ajax.

Former Sydney FC left-back Alex Gersbach took part in Rosenborg's 2-1 win over Molde in Norway's Eliteserien.

Ryan McGown was the only Aussie in action in China, playing a full match in Guizhou Zhicheng's goalless draw with Tianjin Teda. 

Oliver Bozanic, Milos Degenek and former Central Coast Mariner Mitchell Duke were featured in Japan's J1 League, with Duke finding the net in injury time in Shimizu S-Pulse's 2-0 win over Kashiwa Reysol.

Elsewhere in Asia, Dario Vidosic played in Seongnam's 1-2 loss at the hands of Bucheon 1995 while Dimi Petratos and Aleksander Jovanovic came off the bench in the K-League Classic, Korea's second tier.
