Aussies Abroad: Rogic scores as Socceroos stars clash in Scotland

Tom Rogic was in inspired form scoring a goal and providing an assist for Celtic as they defeated Hibernian 4-2 in a match featuring some of the Socceroos' biggest names.

The match was dominated by Australians with four of the game's six goals either scored or created by a Socceroos squad member.

Rogic opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a sensational strike from the edge of the penalty area after creating space with a slick passage of ball movement. 

The mercurial midfielder turned provider moments later to set up Celtic teammate Oliver Ntcham to make it 2-0 for the reigning Scottish Premiership holders.

Newly selected Socceroos midfielder Martin Boyle wouldn't let Rogic take all the limelight, delivering a pinpoint pass to Florian Kamberi as Hibs cut the deficit to 2-1.

Odsonne Edouard stretched the Celtic lead to 3-1 in the 70th minute after he capitalised on a defensive error from Socceroos captain Mark Milligan.

Boyle was at it again only two minutes later as he fired Hibernian back into the contest with a 72nd minute goal. 

Edouard and Celtic would have the final laugh with the Guyanese marksman finding a goal in the 88th minute to wrap up the 4-2 win for Brendan Rodgers' side.

Jamie Maclaren was also a late substitute in the match for Hibernian but he was unable to make much of an impact after being brought on with only three minutes to play.

Elsewhere in Scotland, Oliver Bozanic played 90 minutes in Hearts' 2-1 win against Aberdeen. 

His Australian teammate Ben Garuccio was an unused substitute in the contest.

Andy Rose also saw action with the midfielder playing 90 minutes for Motherwell in their 1-0 loss to St Johnstone.

It was a big night for the Australian contingent in England's top leagues with ten players seeing action from the overnight games.

In the Premier League, a busy shift from Aaron Mooy was not enough for Huddersfield Town as they fell to Liverpool 1-0.

Mooy worked hard as he tried to help the Terriers snatch an unlikely win against Liverpool but it wasn't to be as Mohamed Salah headed home to gift the visitors all three points.

It was a far different story for Socceroos shot-stopper Mat Ryan as he kept a clean sheet in Brighton's 1-0 win on the road against Newcastle United.

Ryan made a number of quality saves to deny Rafa Benitez's squad in what could prove to be a vital win for the Seagulls.

The Championship action from Saturday night also featured a number of Australians in action, starting with Massimo Luongo's QPR.

Luongo played 90 minutes for the Rangers as they defeated Ipswich Town 2-0.

Jackson Irvine also played a full match as Hull City took home a point against Preston North End in a 1-1 draw. 

Irvine also picked up a yellow card in the match.

Ryan Williams started the match for Rotherham United and played the whole match in a 1-1 draw against Bolton Wanderers.

James Meredith played 69 minutes for Millwall in his preferred left-back position as they went down 3-1 to Reading.

Mile Jedinak was an unused substitute in Aston Villa's 1-0 win against Swansea, while Adam Federici was also left on the bench as Stoke lost 1-0 to Birmingham City.

In League One action, recent Socceroos squad call-up Kenneth Dougall played 90 minutes for Barnsley as they lost 2-0 to Charlton Athletic.

Ryan McGowan also started and played the entire game for Bradford City as they went down 2-0 to Rochdale.

Harry Kewell had a tough day at the office as his Notts County side went down 4-0 in a comprehensive loss to Bury.

There were plenty of other Aussies in action across Europe, headlined by Socceroos feel-good story Awer Mabil.

Mabil backed up his maiden goal for Australia with an assist in Midjylland's 4-2 defeat of Danish rivals Nordsjaelland.

Danny Vukovic was on the winning side as his Belgian club side Genk claimed a 2-1 win at home against AS Eupen.

In the Netherlands, Aziz Behich was a second half substitute for PSV as they thrashed Emmen 6-0.

Trent Sainsbury was an unused substitute for PSV.

James Holland played 90 minutes and received a yellow card during his LASK side's 1-1 draw with Rheindorf Altach.

Aleksandar Susnjar received a yellow card during a 90 minute performance for MSK Zilina.

In Asian football action the big story among Australia's players was Andrew Nabbout's performance for J-League side Urawa Reds.

Nabbout came on as a second half substitute and provided an assist late in added time as the Reds defeated Kashima Antlers 3-1.

In the K-League, Connor Chapman played 90 minutes in Suwon Bluewings' 2-0 win against Pohang Steelers. 

Aleksandar Jovanovic also played 90 minutes in Jeju's 1-0 win against Seoul.

James Donachie was a second half substitute for Jeonnam Dragons as they went down 2-1 to Daegu and Kwabeena Appiah also received minutes after coming off the bench for Incheon United as they suffered a 3-2 loss to Jeonbuk Motors.
