The mercurial midfielder provided an assist and was a constant threat in attack for the regining Cup holders, as Moussa Dembele nabbed a second half double in the win.

It was Rogic's slick cross - from the right edge of the penalty box - in the 62nd minute which set up Dembele's first with the French striker out jumping the Morton defence to head past the keeper and into the back of the net.

Earlier in the clash, Rogic was unlucky not to open the scoring with a rasping shot denied by a quality save from Morton custodian David Gaston.

The 24-year-old was substituted in the 68th minute for Chelsea Loanee Charly Musonda.

It was Rogic's fourth game back since recovering from a knee injury which kept the former Central Coast Mariners player sidelined for nearly three months.

The match also featured a cameo from Rogic's fellow Australian Jack Iredale who came on in the 87th minute for Morton.

Another Socceroos star was in action in England's Championship as Tim Cahill made a late appearance in Millwall's 1-1 draw with Sunderland.

Cahill came on in the 87th minute at The Den but was unable to make much of an impact in his limited time on the park.

Fellow Aussie James Meredith started the match for The Lions as they stretched their unbeaten run at home to twelve games.

Mathew Leckie was on the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline in Germany as his Hertha Berlin side went down to Schalke.

Leckie started the match on the right flank for Berlin and played 90 minutes.

Marko Pjacca's 37th minute strike was the difference with Schalke's Croatian winger firing his side into the lead with a clinical finish from six yards out.

Leckie helped set up a key chance for Berlin to equalise late in the match but Valentino Lazaro's shot from 30 yards out was denied by a diving Ralf Fahrmann.

Australian players were also in form in Asia overnight.

Connor Chapman provided an assist in his first regular season match for Pohang Steelers who cruised to a 3-0 win against Deagu FC in the opening round of the season.

The 23-year-old defender delivered a perfectly weighted through ball to launch a stinging counter-attack which was finished in style by Pohang striker Kim Seung-Dae.

The 90-minute performance from Chapman was a brilliant showing from the talented defender and is sure to help his chances of Socceroos selection.

Another player making a debut was goalkeeper Mitch Langerak who kept a clean sheet in his first home match for J-League club Nagoya Grampus as they snatched a 1-0 win against Jubilo Iwata.

Mitch Duke was a second-half substitue for Shimizu S-Pulse, coming on in the 70th minute in their 4-2 win against Lukas Podolski's Vissel Kobe.

The English Championship clash between Socceroos captain Mile Jedinak and the QPR team of his Australian teammate Massimo Luongo, scheduled for Saturday night at Villa Park, was postponed due to heavy snow.

The match will now be played at 7.45pm on Tuesday March 13. (5.45 am Wednesday March 14 AEDT).
