It was a 33 minute cameo for the central defender coming on in the 57th minute for two-goal star Nick Viergever.

It was a solid outing for Sainsbury who looked good during his time on the park.

Newly signed Aziz Behich didn't feature in the match for PSV.

In England, it was another tough day at the office for the Australian contingent.

Socceroos captain Mile Jedinak started for Aston Villa at centre-back but shipped four goals as the Villains were thrashed 4-1 by Sheffield United.

Massimo Luongo had a bit more luck with his QPR team claiming a 0-0 draw against Birmingham City with the Australian midfielder playing a full 90 minutes.

James Meredith's Millwall couldn't take a point away from their match with Swansea going down 2-1. Meredith started the match but was substituted in the 86th minute.

The Rotherham side of Ryan WIlliams were also on the losing side as Wigan defeated them 1-0. WIlliams picked up a yellow card in a 90 minute performance.

It was a brighter occasion in League One with Cameron Burgess providing an assist in Scunthorpe United's 1-1 draw.

Kenny Dougall continued his strong start to life at Barnsley with his side winning 2-1 against Gillingham.

The results were a bit better for Australia's players plying their trade in Scotland.

Ben Garuccio played 90 minutes in Hearts' 4-1 win against St. Mirren while fellow Aussie Oliver Bozanic was an unused substitute.

Jamie Maclaren couldn't help Hibernian to a win against Livingston going down 2-1.

Mark Milligan was not in Hibs' matchday squad.

In the Scottish Championship Lyndon Dykes continued his impressive start to the season with Queen of the South.

Dykes provided three assists in a 5-0 win against Ayr United.

In Japan, Mitch Langerak's Nagoya Grampus moved a step closer to safety with a 6-1 against Jubilo Iwata with the Aussie shot-stopper starting the match and playing 90 minutes.

Mitchell Duke suffered a heartbreaking defeat with side Shimzu S-Pulse. Duke played 65 minutes in the 2-1 loss with his side conceding in the 95th minute to go down against Vegalta Sendai.

Former Melbourne Victory defender Jason Geria played 72 minutes in JEF United's 4-0 win against Renofa Yamaguchi in the Japanese second division.

Finally in Hong Kong, former Central Coast Mariners and Blacktown City attacker Travis Major scored twice in Pegasus' 4-1 win against Dreams.
