E-mail template for employees
Dear boss of [employee name],
This email is from the SBS World Cup Watchers’ Rights Association on behalf of your employee. As you may know, the World Cup is inconveniently happening during work hours. Bad for meetings. Good for you. Because this is your chance to let employees enjoy the beautiful game during work.
[Employee Name] is requesting to watch [Team] vs [Team] at [Time] on [Date] – live during work please.
Some options cool bosses are already using:
- Live viewing where possible.
- Putting a shared screen on for key matches.
- Supporting flexible start times after late morning games.
In our experience, being an accommodating boss leads to better morale, better focus and fewer suspiciously long ”bathroom” breaks.
Thank you for taking this into consideration.
Sincerely,
SBS World Cup Watchers’ Rights Association

Hi team,
The 2026 World Cup is coming, and some matches will land during the workday. But there’s good news.
We’ve signed up as a World Cup-Friendly Workplace with the SBS World Cup Watchers’ Rights Association. So, you can watch it during work hours, but mainly because I love football.
What this means:
- If there’s a football match, you’re keen to watch during work or right before work, email your manager 24 hrs beforehand.
- We’ll work out sensible options like later starts, shift swaps, longer breaks, or making up time.
- Some roles can’t watch live every time, but we’ll aim for fair calls and clear comms.
- No need for sneaky laptop angles or mysterious “appointments”. You can openly watch at work.
