Bendtner fined by Wolfsburg after sleep in

Wolfsburg striker Nicklas Bendtner has been fined $3,375 for turning up to training 45 minutes late earlier this week.

The former Arsenal forward, who does not appear to have a future at the Bundesliga club having been dropped from the squad entirely for recent games, was fined $75 for each minute he was late.

"I just slept in and didn't hear my alarm. It's my mistake," the 28-year-old Denmark international said.

Bendtner has scored twice for Wolfsburg this season, although he has been left out of the squad for the past six games with coach Dieter Hecking admitting he is no longer under consideration.

While the 28 year-old's contract still has over a year left to run, the club will be looking to offload Bendtner, who won a Serie A title while on loan at Juventus in the 2012-2013 season.
