Berisha leaves Japanese side, becomes free agent

Besart Berisha and J-League side Sanfrecce Hiroshima have mutually agreed to terminate the striker's contract, 13 months after he left Melbourne Victory.

Berisha didn't play a single minute for his Japanese club in 2019, and only managed six appearances off the bench in his first season with the club in 2018.

A statement released by the club said Berisha is undecided where he will play next.

The 34-year-old is now an Australian citizen after spending seven years in Australia which saw him become the all-time leading scorer in the A-League with 106 goals in 171 matches.

It's possible that Berisha could return to the A-League, with a number of clubs in the market for a centre-forward ahead of the season opener on October 11.
