Big names to contest FFA board elections

Big names of Australian football and business are set to go head to head with a field of eight candidates likely to contest an election next month for a spot on a new-look Football Federation Australia board.

A report by The Australian has suggested that as many as three contenders are from the world of big business including Accounting and Advisory firm PwC managing partner Joseph Carrozzi.

Carrozzi has extensive experience on boards, committees and advisory panels. He is currently chairman of the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust, the Centenary Institute for medical research and is deputy chairman of the GWS Giants AFL club.

It has been reported that he will be up against current FFA board member and former Socceroo Danny Moulis, former Soccer Australia chairman Remo Nogarotto, former Socceroo Craig Foster, former Capital Football boss Heather Reid and former CEO of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation Judith Griggs.

While nominations for a position on the FFA board closed yesterday at 5pm, the full list of contenders are unlikely to be revealed until the list is reviewed by the Nominations Committee next week. 

The vote for the board positions will take place during the FFA annual general meeting on November 15.

Four board positions will be elected, while three appointed positions will also be decided upon after the resignations of chairman Steven Lowy and director Joseph Healy as well as the departure of Chris Nikou and Simon Hepworth due to the expiration of their term.

Nikou is expected to run for another term on the board but the intentions of fellow members Kelly Bayer Rosmarin and Crispin Murray are not clear.

Carozzi has been linked with the vacant chairman position alongside Nogarotto and former Labor senator Stephen Conroy.

However, Nogarotto, who has a storied history with Soccer Australia, the NSL and A-League, revealed he had ruled himself out of the race for chairman.
