Boonen (Etixx-Quick-Step) was involved in a crash at the back of the peloton and was later diagnosed with a left acromioclavicular (AC) joint dislocation.

The one-day classic specialist hit the ground heavily about 17 kilometres from the finish after colliding with another rider.

He will be out of action for three to six weeks and will be unable to contest the Tour of Flanders or Paris-Roubaix.

The 196.5km stage from Saint-Remy-les-Chevreuse to Contres was won by Katusha's Alexander Kristoff who edged out Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis) and Bryan Coquard (Europcar).

SBS will broadcast every stage of Paris-Nice live!
