Borini looking for a chance away from Liverpool

Out-of-favour forward Fabio Borini appears to have finally realised his time at Liverpool is up after his agent criticised the club's treatment of the player.

The Italian turned down two chances to leave last summer with both Queens Park Rangers and Sunderland - where he spent a successful season on loan - making offers in the region of $20 million which were acceptable to the Reds.

But despite being effectively told by manager Brendan Rodgers he had little chance of much playing time the 24-year-old opted to stick it out at Anfield, making just five starts in 18 appearances and scoring one goal last season.

Borini has only three goals from 38 games in his Liverpool stint and agent Marco de Marchi accepts it is now time for him to move on.

"We expected more consideration from Liverpool," he told Corriere dello Sport.

"Fabio feels like having a new experience. He has no preference, he just wants a team that gives him a clear chance to prove himself.

"Right now he feels like a lion in a cage.

"Top clubs in Europe are keen on him, from the Premier League to the Bundesliga and there also clubs in Italy, but many clubs in Italy have had coaching changes and that has slowed things down."

Borini was Rodgers's first signing as Liverpool manager in the northern summer of 2012 when he arrived from Roma.

With just 12 months left on his contract it would appear reaching that figure, let alone the level of last summer, is unlikely.

"His current value is that given by Sunderland last year," De Marchi added.

"However, that figure could be affected by the season he's had at Liverpool and the fact that in a year his contract runs out.

"For the time being, everything is on standby as the player is currently on his honeymoon but will return shortly."

Liverpool has already bolstered its forward line with the signing of Burnley's England Under-21 international Danny Ings but the writing was already on the wall for Borini as Belgium striker Divock Origi, a capture last northern summer, will return for pre-season after being loaned back to his owner club.

Compatriot Simon Mignolet is looking forward to seeing his 20-year-old international team-mate get his chance at Anfield.

"He's only young but on the other side he's also quite experienced, having played in Ligue 1 in France and with the Belgian national team," the Reds goalkeeper told the official Liverpool FC magazine.

"He's got a lot of ability, he is quick and can score a goal and he is willing to work for the team and put pressure on defences.

"He's got a great attitude, so what more do you want? I am looking forward to when he is going to join."
