Bosnar severs ties with the Mariners

Veteran defender Eddy Bosnar has agreed terms for a premature exit from Central Coast Mariners after being told by coach Tony Walmsley he doesn’t feature in his plans for this season, as the club ramps up their policy of blooding young talent.

With just a single appearance so far off the bench this season, the much travelled Bosnar – who long blazed a trail in Japan's top-tier during his peak years – joined unwanted keeper Liam Reddy in the Gosford departure lounge, with the centre-back's exit confirmed by the Mariners on Tuesday.

"The Central Coast Mariners wish to advise Members, fans and media that the contract of Eddy Bosnar has been terminated by mutual consent," a club statement read.

Bosnar, who was contracted until the end of the season, made 30 appearances and scored four goals since arriving as a free agent in January 2014, after previous stints with Suwon Bluewings, Shimizu S-Pulse,  JEF United, and in Europe at Dinamo Zagreb, Sturm Graz and Heracles Almalo.

He came close to signing for Sydney FC before opting for the Mariners, and its unlclear where his next career stop will be as departs a club that is leaning heavily on young guns under Walmsey, with the average age of his defence just 21 this season.

Bosnar was informed by the club that with rookie centre-backs Jake McGing and Jacob Poscoliero distinguishing themselves so far this season, and fellow youngster Harry Ascroft also nudging ahead of him in the pecking order, his chances were limited.

Meanwhile, Reddy – who was given by the club until Monday to accept a severance deal after several in-house transgressions – has yet to officially accept the club's offer of a settlement to his contract.

It's understood, however, that a conclusion to the saga is close.
