Brazil icon Ronaldinho only has $9 to his name - reports

Brazil legend Ronaldinho has hit major financial troubles with reports claiming the former Barcelona superstar only has $9 to his name and debts in excess of $3 million.

The two-time FIFA World Player of the Year is unable to pay the massive debt after incurring massive fines for illegal construction in a protected area in Brazil with his Brother Roberto Assis.

Along with company Reno Constructions and Incorporations Ltd, they were found to have built a sugar mill with a fishing platform and a pier in a permanent preservation area on Lake Guaíba without permission.

Attempts at remortgaging the property have proven futile for the former Barcelona, PSG and AC Milan star with sky-high interest rates sending his outstanding debts through the roof.

A judge in Brazil has called for the World Cup winner's passport be seized so he is unable to leave the country in an attempt to avoid repaying the debt.

Named onto the FIFA 100 list of greatest living players as compiled by fellow Brazilian great Pele, Ronldinho's legacy could be tarnished by these latest claims.

Although retired from professional football, Ronaldinho remains sponsored by numerous brands worldwide and has been in Japan and China in recent weeks on endorsement campaigns.

The 38-year-old also regularly participates in charity matches and will play in the 'Game of Champions' in Frankfurt on November 17 to help raise money for disadvantaged children.
