The former Fulham midfielder put pen to paper on a one year extension to his existing two year deal which keeps the 28-year-old in the Hunter until the end of the 2018-2019 A-League season.

Brown joined the Jets in May and has started in all of the Club’s FFA Cup and A-League matches this season with his high energy style and eye for goal impressing coach Mark Jones.

The midfield maestro said his family enjoyed living in Newcastle and he jumped at the chance to cement his future at the club.

“I am delighted to have committed to the club,” Brown said.

“I have settled in really well here, I am happy on the pitch and most importantly the family is happy off the pitch as well.

“The club and fans have taken me in like one of their own, so I am delighted that it can continue for even longer.

“We have got a great bunch of lads and I think that’s key for us. We have got experience, home grown players and young talent that is eager to learn.”

Jets coach Jones said Brown was the type of player he hopes to build his team around.

“He (Brown) has very good attacking instincts, is very tidy technically on the ball, but is also an aggressive defender who wins the ball and presses well,” he said.

“He is a winner and the sort of character that we want in our football team.

"Wayne inspires others through his hard work, discipline and attitude."

The Jets will travel to Melbourne today ahead of their Thursday night clash with Melbourne City and Brown believes it will be an important match for Newcastle.

“We need to get back to the performances that we had at the start of the season and get the results that we did,” Brown said.

“I think you have seen from all the results that it’s going to be a really tight league because anyone is capable of beating anyone on their day.

“We are working hard on the training field day in day out, and hopefully we can start putting some points on the board.”
