The Premier League has continued to provide shock results with Burnley the latest team to pull off an upset.

With Jurgen Klopp having a full pre-season to install his philosophy, the Reds' start to the season was strong after they beat Arsene Wenger's Arsenal 4-3 last weekend.

However, they failed to continue their form against a Burnley side who had lost 1-0 to Stoke at home in the opening round.

The Clarets got off to a flying start, with Welsh international Sam Vokes firing a powerful shot past Simon Mignolet three minutes in to stun the visitors.

Andre Gray came close to doubling the lead for the home side, but Dejan Lovren's superb goal-saving tackle kept the match within reach.

Liverpool had their chances to tie things up but, despite the prolonged pressure they placed on the Burnley defence, were ultimately unable to convert.

Andre Gray managed to get on the score-sheet, with new signing Steven Defour playing a perfect ball through the Reds' defense. Gray pounced accordingly, much to the delight of the Turf Moor faithful.

"It feels unreal to score my first Premier League goal." Gray said.

"It's nice to do it early because the longer the games go without scoring it plays with your head.

"It was a great team performance. I don't think we deserved to lose last week and it was important to make it right this week.

"We know we're not going to out-play teams every week but we have the biggest heart."

For the first 30 minutes of the second half, the Reds dominated possession at close to 85% but remained unable to captitalise on any of their chances.

Philippe Coutinho had a number of attempts that were well off-target, while Burnley's defence held tight with Tom Heaton pulling off a couple of spectacular saves to earn what was a well-deserved win for Sean Dyche's side.
