Young gun Lizette Cabrera has saved Australia from a women's qualifying wipe-out at the French Open in Paris.
Cabrera, 20, beat Japan's Junri Namigata 6-4 3-6 6-3 to advance to the second round on Wednesday after teenage ace Destanee Aiava, Arina Rodionova, Olivia Rogowska and Priscilla Hon all bombed out in the first round of qualifying.
Aiava let slip a golden opportunity to edge towards a main-draw berth at Roland Garros for the first time, collapsing from a set and a service break up in a 2-6 6-3 6-3 defeat to China's Fangzhou Liu.
After dominating the opening set, the 18-year-old looked to be cruising at 3-1 up in the second before losing seven games straight to invite Liu back into the contest.
The errors continued to flow in the deciding set as Aiava - a former winner of the Longines Future Tennis Aces event at Roland Garros that earned her an exhibition match against the great Steffi Graf - failed to progress beyond the first round of qualifying for the second successive year.
Rogowska and Hon also squandered one-set-to-love leads with the former on court for barely 15 minutes before exiting.
Resuming at one set all against Kathinka Von Deichmann, Rogowska lost four of the last six games in a 5-7 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 loss to the Liechtensteiner.
Rogowska, who lost the final of Australia's wildcard playoff to Isabelle Wallace on Sunday, stood within two points of victory on Tuesday night before heavy rain forced the suspension of play.
Hon succumbed 0-6 6-2 6-4 6-0 after a storming start against Italian Deborah Chiesa, while Rodionova - the 15th seed - fell 6-3 6-4 to French wildcard Harmony Tan.
Bernard Tomic, Thanasi Kokkinakis and rising star Akira Santillan were all scheduled to play men's second-round qualifying matches later on Wednesday.
Tomic, Kokkinakis and Santillan need to win three matches to join Nick Kyrgios, Matt Ebden, John Millman, Jordan Thompson, James Duckworth and Alex de Minaur in the main draw.
