Both Celtic and the Socceroos are sweating on the outcome of the MRI on his left knee, which will decide whether the 19-year-old attacker misses the AFC Asian Cup or has a shot at making the cut for the UAE in January.
Arzani went down clutching his knee just 18 minutes into an impressive debut off the bench for the Hoops in the 5-0 thumping of Dundee on Thursday (AEDT).
There was feverish initial speculation that Arzani had suffered a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament rupture.
However, The World Game has been told that it’s more likely the exciting winger suffered medial collateral ligament and/or meniscus damage, an injury which could see him back in action by Christmas.
Such an outcome would leave the door ajar for the Asian Cup, with Australia’s opening fixture against Jordan on January 6.
Scottish media has reported that Celtic medicos have been unable to diagnose the extent of the injury because Arzani's knee is too swollen to be scanned.
However, a scan was performed in Glasgow last night (UK time) and the club will receive the evaluation from an orthopedic specialist imminently.
Celtic coach Brendan Rodgers, who praised Arzani’s impact in his brief cameo, is due to hold a press briefing tonight (AEDT) ahead of Sunday's (AEDT) Scottish Premiership clash against table topping Hearts - home to Aussies Oliver Bozanic and Ben Garuccio.
It’s likely that he will use that platform to reveal the extent of Arzani’s injury.
