Covic drafted in by Phoenix to face Sydney FC

Ante Covic could become the oldest ever player in the A-League, after the 43-year-old was brought in by Wellington Phoenix as an injury replacement signing for Saturday's clash with Sydney FC.

Covic comes in for Filip Kurto who suffered a concussion in the Phoenix's match with Perth Glory last Saturday and has not recovered in time to travel to Sydney.

“We expect Filip to make a speedy recovery and considering we are in Sydney, experienced goalkeeper Ante Covic will come in as short-term cover," the Phoenix said in a statement.

Covic previously played for Newcastle Jets, Melbourne Victory, Perth Glory and most famously for Western Sydney Wanderers.

Last season he played for Rochdale City in the New South Wales Premier League.
