Dimension Data remains committed to Qhubeka

With a title sponsor and kit change in 2016, many fans feared the dedication of former Team MTN-Qhubeka to the #BicyclesChangeLives campaign would cease.

Executive Director of the Qhubeka charity, Sarah Phaweni, confirmed Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka will not only remain committed to its cause, but the step up to the WorldTour will expose it to even more people.

“We’re thrilled the team will become the first ever UCI WorldTour team from the African continent," she said.

"We are thankful to Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka and its sponsors for their passion in helping us to change more lives with bicycles through our projects.

"We look forward to cheering them on as they continue to bring African cycling into the world spotlight, as well as the work we do at Qhubeka and World Bicycle Relief,” Phaweni said.

Douglas Ryder, Team Principal, says he is ready for the challenges of 2016.

"The World Tour requires depth and consistency and I am confident our riders and staff are ready for this incredible challenge.

"Most importantly, we have been fortunate to receive support from the most incredible partners in so many areas and on so many levels on and off the bike.

"Our partners will help this team move forward successfully and ensure the Qhubeka charity remains at the forefront of everything we do as we continue to accelerate the ambitions of African cycling and make an impact that matters in the communities," he said.

In 2016, Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka aims to again raise funds for bicycles for 5,000 people in Qhubeka’s work-to-earn programmes.

Its fundraising activities kick off at the TDU with a coffee ride in Adelaide on Friday 15 January.
