Meares put out a desperate call on social media when she realised Bruce had decided to take a solo christmas stroll around town.
Thankfully she was happily reuinted with the cuddly canine only two hours later after he was found swimming a few kilometres from home.
"I never expected to save a dog while fishing but I love dogs and couldn't help myself," said rescurer Vangeli Lattas on Facebook. "I am just glad the amazing dog is back in the amazing gold medalists arms."
