After waiting nine long years for a maiden playoff appearance, Toronto had no reply to their hosts with Didier Drogba again finding the net to round off the scoring late in the first half.

An imperial Montreal Impact side scored three goals in 20 first-half minutes to end TFC’s dreams just as they were starting. The Impact ran out 3-0 winners against their archrivals on Thursday night at Stade Saputo, in the Knockout Round of the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs.

Captain Patrice Bernier opened the scoring on 18 minutes before Ignacio Piatti - who laid on the opener - netted himself in the 33rd minute.

Star forward Drogba booked Montreal’s first-ever trip to the Eastern Conference semi-finals with a volley from close range on 39 minutes.

Next up for Montreal is a two-legged affair against Columbus Crew while the season of Sebastian Giovinco - the league's top scorer and the man tipped to scoop the MLS player and goal of the year awards - came to an abrupt end.
