With both sides having been involved in a nine-goal thriller in October, entertainment was virtually guaranteed - and so it proved.

The hosts raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from the impressive Luuk de Jong and Davy Propper - the former's 16th league goal of the season - and they could have been out of sight had Jurgen Locadia not seen his penalty saved by De Graafschap goalkeeper Hidde Jurjus.

Phillip Cocu's men went into the break 3-0 in front, however, as Luciano Narsingh's curling effort put them in cruise control.

But the Philips Stadion faithful were in for a tense finish as goals from Ted van de Pavert and Bart Straalman gave Jan Vreman's men hope of securing an unlikely point.

However, Gaston Pereiro put the result to bed five minutes from time as PSV top of the summit temporarily with fellow title-chasers Ajax playing on Sunday.

FC Groningen extended their unbeaten league run to three as they were 3-1 winners at PEC Zwolle. Alexander Sorloth put the visitors ahead in the first half but Thomas Lam levelled in the 56th minute.

Michael de Leeuw regained Groningen's advantage six minutes later before Danny Hoesen sealed the win late on.

AZ Alkmaar made it four successive wins in the Eredivisie as they beat NEC Nijmegen 3-0 at the Goffertstadion.

John van der Brom's men were 2-0 up after 15 minutes through goals from Markus Henriksen and Alireza Jahanbakhsh. The home side pushed forward in the second half but Levi Garcia clinched all three points for the visitors.

Elsewhere, Vitesse and Excelsior played out a goalless stalemate at the GelreDome.
