Carneiro's dismissal from Chelsea came after she entered the field of play to treat Eden Hazard during the 2-2 draw with Swansea on 9 August. Mourinho slammed an “impulsive and naïve” Carneiro for reducing his side to nine men at a crucial stage of the game, and she was subsequently dropped on 22 September.
The former team doctor has now filed filed a claim against the Portuguese manager, which couldn't come at a worse time with Chelsea languishing in 15th place in the Premier League and calls growing for the 'special one' to be sacked.
Mourinho will now have to appear in person at an employment tribunal unless the two parties can settle outside of court. If victimisation or discrimination can be proven then an individual can be personally liable for damages.
"As this matter is subject to legal proceedings it wouldn't be appropriate to comment at this time" A Chelsea spokesperson said.
Mourinho has struggled thus far this season, seeing his side win just three of their opening 11 Premier League games.
