Ex-Mariner McGing ready to join Fowler’s Brisbane influx

Former Central Coast Mariners defender Jake McGing is the latest name to be linked with Robbie Fowler’s Brisbane Roar, as the club unveils a flurry of signings.

McGing, 25, is a free agent having parted company with Polish club Wisla Plock - just five months after heading to the Ekstraklasa.

He made 12 appearances for the top tier outfit before being released at season’s end, and is understood to have been in discussions with Brisbane over a return to the A-League under the Fowler banner.

It’s believed only the formality of a medical remains to be completed prior to the signing of a multi-year contract.

McGing made 84 appearances in five seasons in Gosford, and while predominantly a right-back can also operate as a stopper or even in midfield as a number six.

Sydney-born McGing is keen to work under Fowler, whose arrival has ignited a new optimism around the Roar after the disappointments of last season.

The signings have come thick and fast, with Welsh striker Aaron Amadi-Holloway (from Shrewsbury) and English defender Macaulay Gillesphey (formerly of Carlisle United) and ex-Scotland youth international Tom Aldred (previously with Motherwell) all confirmed on Tuesday alone.

With Irishman Roy O’Donovan already in the bag along with ex-Adelaide midfielder George Mells - though he has yet to be officially confirmed - the Fowler rebuild is proceeding at a brisk pace.

Further confirmations will come as this week unfolds with Burnley’s Australian midfielder Aiden O’Neill arriving on a season-long loan following his stint with Central Coast last season, along with attacking weapon and compatriot Brad Inman from English lower tier outfit Rochdale.
