Former England international Johnson released from prison

Former Sunderland and Manchester City winger Adam Johnson has been released from prison after serving just three years of his six-year sentence for child sex offences.

In 2016, Johnson was found guilty of child grooming and sexual activity with a minor after he was alleged to have kissed a 15-year-old girl and touched her inappropriately.

Johnson, then 27, and the teenager exchanged 800 messages over social media, that he would later delete.

During sentencing, the judge said that Johnson had lied repeatedly.

The now 31-year-old will be a registered sex offender, which will mean police will have access to his address and bank details and he will have to inform the authorities of any intention to go overseas.
