Former Liverpool star signing Diouf slams Reds great Carragher

Former Liverpool winger El Hadji Diouf has taken a shot at ex-Red's teammate Jamie Carragher saying the former England international's career success was only because he was a Scouser.

Diouf came to Liverpool among much fanfare in 2002 after a breakthrough showing for Senegal at the FIFA World Cup in Japan and Korea.

However, the move proved to be bad news for both the player and club as Diouf struggled to rediscover his top form at Anfield.

The Senegalese flyer called it quits on his career in 2015 but has since made a habit of blasting his former club not holding back when it comes to criticising ex-teammates Steven Gerrard and Carragher.

In a no holds barred interview with beIN SPORTS, Diouf said Carragher benefitted from being born and raised on Merseyside.

"He was a right-footed player with two left feet,” Diouf said.

“If he wasn't a Scouser, a son of Liverpool, he would never have had the career he did.”

Diouf previously admitted that he made a mistake in joining Liverpool, at a time where Manchester United were also interested in snapping him up.

“I can say today that the shirt that I regret wearing the most was Liverpool’s,” he said.

“Because if I were to do that part of my career again, I would have gone to FC Barcelona or Manchester United.

“At the time, they wanted me too.”

Carragher, in an interview last year, had his own crack at his one-time Liverpool team-mate.

“The worst (teammate I ever had) has to be El Hadji Diouf,” Carragher said.

“Actually, I quite enjoyed playing against him as you could kick him then – can’t kick your own players.’”
