Former Roar rising star looking to reignite career with European move

Former Australia U-17s skipper Joe Caletti will pick up the threads of his future in Norway following his departure from Brisbane Roar.

Released by the Roar in May, the diminutive midfielder was left club-less after three years and 39 appearances.

And with no takers elsewhere in the A-League, Caletti - who led the Joeys at the World Cup three years ago - has joined Florø SK in Norway’s Eliteserien division, the nation’s third tier.

Whilst the level of the competition might not match the spectacular surrounding scenery of mountains and fjords, Caletti, 20, sees it as a chance to build a new future in Europe after signing a 15-month deal.

“It’s a bit different for me but I’m excited to be here in Europe and you never know where you might go from here,” he said.

“This is a chance to go somewhere and get some games under my belt and express myself and continue to develop.

“Hopefully I’ll build some consistency which is what I need at this stage of my career.”

Caletti has no recriminations over his Roar exit, attributing it to the twists and turns of life as a footballer.

“I loved my time there and they gave me the chance to make my debut and to be a professional,” he added.

“Unfortunately (for me), the club took a new approach for the season ahead and I understand that.

“It’s time to move on and try something here.

“At the end of the day football is a business and everyone has an opinion - there are no hard feelings from me.

“I’m just trying to look at the positives of the whole situation and this is a new adventure for me.

“You’ve got to move on and I hope Brisbane do well this season.”

Florø, who are halfway through their season, was once home to Luke Jeggo, younger brother of Austria-based Socceroo James.

“I’m hoping to be involved this weekend and get my first few minutes and help the team push towards promotion,” added Caletti.

“It’s a completely different environment here and it’s refreshing, to be honest.

“I just want to put in some good performances and see where it might take me.”
