Fowler set to be named new Roar boss

Robbie Fowler has reportedly agreed a deal to take over struggling A-League side Brisbane Roar next season.

The Liverpool legend will conclude the Roar's four-month search for a successor to John Aloisi and will be presented to the media on Tuesday, according to the Herald.

Interim coach Darren Davies will instead serve as Fowler's assistant next season, as the club aim to improve on their inevitable ninth-placed finish.

With the 44-year-old already in the country, Thursday's Anzac Day clash at home to Adelaide United will afford him the perfect opportunity to assess his squad ahead of a swift clean-out.

The Roar's current predicament is sure to test a managerially raw Fowler, whose only taste of professional coaching came during a brief stint while still a player at Thailand's Muangthong United in 2011.

Unlike his fellow foreign counterparts, Fowler arrives having already experienced A-League action first-hand - as a marquee with both North Queensland Fury (2009-10) and current Premiers Perth Glory (2010-11) - and the Roar will hope this only helps their cause to become the country's best once again.
