Freakish fitness levels key for Kruse in hunt for new club

Clubless Robbie Kruse has a new weapon in his armory as he seeks to finalise his future - freakish fitness levels.

In-house metrics collected by the Socceroos conditioning staff at the Confederations Cup have confirmed the 28 year old is blessed with "off-the-charts" durability, according to teammate Jackson Irvine.

The stats, which measure explosive acceleration, kilometers covered in games and sustained speed levels among other metrics, have Kruse at, or near, the top of charts.

Kruse' perpetual motion attributes have seemingly been unaffected by just seven club games in the past 12 months, with Irvine declaring: "He hadn't played a lot of football coming into camp last month but his natural fitness levels are absolutely incredible.

"We see stats after games in terms of distances and then particular high-speed metres, which is the amount of time you spend in a game doing sprints at the top level, and Robbie's stats are absolutely off the charts.

"He's an incredibly fit guy and when you combine that with his experience at international level with 50 plus caps, he's just all-around pretty vital to the team with everything he brings.

"He makes those runs in behind which allows us to stretch games, I think you saw that against Germany and Cameroon.

"And even on the wing that role against Chile, he was able to help open up the game which game which created a lot more space for our midfielders."

Kruse has been looking for a new club since exiting Chinese outfit Liaoning Whowin after just four months following a dispute over unpaid wages.

He has had offers to return to Germany - where he has been on the books of Fortuna Düsseldorf, Stuttgart (on loan) and Bayer Leverkusen - and also the Middle East.

But, as yet, no deals have been struck.

Irvine, though, sees it as simply a matter of time.

"I am sure he will sort himself out a club as soon as possible and be ready to go for the World Cup qualifiers in August and September (against Japan and Thailand) because he's one of our most important players," he added.

"He's been a Champions League player with Leverkusen and with the number of caps he has, that some of experience is key for us.

"And fitness will never be a problem for a guy who can produce those sorts of stats."

Irvine, a star in the Championship with Burton Albion, believes Kruse is equipped to flourish in just about any European League.

"With his physical attributes you can play in any league," he added.

"He has great pace and is technically a very good player as well.

"Who knows where he will end up but hopefully it will be somewhere where he will be back playing regularly and also playing a major role for the national team."
