GC leader Roglič happy after surviving 'stressful' Stage 10

Jumbo-Visma's Primož Roglič maintained his yellow jersey status after a nervous Stage 10 of the 2020 Tour de France which saw crashes and crosswinds hit the peloton once again.

The Slovenian crossed the finish line in Saint-Martin-de-Ré in 32nd overall, keeping his lead in the GC standings with a twenty-one second gap between Ineos Grenadiers's Egan Bernal in second place.

Roglič was in good spirits at the finish and praised his team for getting through a tough stage.

“It was a different stage but it was quite a nervous and stressful stage from the start all the way to the finish," Roglič said. "As a team, we managed it really well and the guys did a really good job."

"We can be happy at the end of this stage and look forward to the next ones.”

In a stage with nasty crashes which saw riders like Mitchelton-SCOTT's Sam Bewley and UAE Team Emirates' Davide Formolo forced to abandon their Tour campaigns, Roglič emphasised the importance of remaining vigilant out on the road.

"I always say that as long as you're in one piece quite a lot of things are possible," Roglič said. "It's just really important to be there and to watch out."

In a year that has continued to showcase the performances of elite Slovenian riders like Roglič and Stage nine winner UAE Team Emirates' Tadej Pogačar, Jumbo-Visma's main man expressed his excitement about the journey of cycling in his home country.

"We have two million people and a lot of top athletes," Roglič said. " It’s crazy and especially for us because before we were riding but without so many results."

"Now, myself and Tadej [Pogačar] … I’m thankful that we are able to write the history of cycling.”
