After scoring 67 goals in 89 appearances for Porto, Martinez joined Atletico Madrid last summer for $55 million, but struggled for form and playing time scoring just two goals in 15 La Liga games this season.

The reiging champions of Asia are coached by former Chelsea boss Luis Felipe Scolari, who took over the club in June.

Guangzhou confirmed the signing of Martinez via their official Twitter account just a week after they sold their star striker Elkeson to fellow Chinese club Shanghai SIPG.

"Jackson Martinez has officially joined the team in Guangzhou," the tweet read.

Martinez has reportedly signed a four-year deal with the club.
