Heerenveen return to winning ways

Heerenveen bounced back from their heavy defeat to Ajax with a 2-1 victory against Excelsior.

Beaten 5-2 in Amsterdam last weekend, Heerenveen went in front after 22 minutes when Kenny Otigba tapped in from close range from Henk Veerman's header down. Sam Larsson doubled the lead with a low shot from just outside the box early in the second half.

Jeff Stans pulled a goal back for Excelsior from the penalty spot in injury-time after Otigba handled but Heerenveen held on for a third straight home win.
